Wednesday April 28, 2010 ENG 102 BLOG

This is the last week in english 102 and I feel as though I have accomplished a lot this spring semester. When I look back at when I started english 101 in the fall, I feel that I have improved in many aspects of my writing skills in many different categories. My main goal when I first came to english class was to improve my way overall skills to the college level. I felt like in high school that I didn't learn enough to be prepared for college writing. So when I first started college english I was a little nervous writing my first paper, and receiving feedback. I realized that my writing was sufficient at the college level, but I needed to make improvements on little grammatical errors. I also noticed that I needed to do a better job with my sources. I realized that I need to incorporate my sources better. I also needed to get better sources. I knew that wikipedia wasn't a legitimate source but I didn't realize that dictionary.com was a bad source.

The article was about sarah palin's son who had down syndrome. Family guy receives negative feedback about the epidsode from all politicians.

March 4, 2010 ENG 102 BLOG

This week in class we went over getting our Project 3 polished and completed. Project 3 was based on finding a problem in your local area or something that is a problem in the State of Indiana or on a national level. The problem that I chose in my local area dealt with an officer who was killed in a high speed chase by a drunk driver. Now my paper didn't deal with just officers getting killed by drunk drivers, but with drunk drivers in general getting behind the wheel and causing an accident. I backed up my paper with tons of facts and reliable sources. The facts I provided dealt with drinking in general before you start up an autombile, and what leads up to driving drunk. I put tons of facts about the limitations of drinking. The feedback I received Wednesday from Stephanie was all postive. She told me that she liked everything about it, and that I needed to change nothing. I think for all the information I provided for project 3, it turned out to be a great paper. I actually enjoyed writing this paper, because it dealt with a friend, and local news in my area. The revised version of this paper is due March 19. Then on Wed. we started a group about the atrium and I am teamed up with Stephanie and Arica.

February 23, 2010 ENG 102 BOG

This week we were suppose to attend a Ted Koppel event, or write a video discussing the event. The video I watched was the one where Ted Koppel was discussion his prision views. He firsts off my talking about freedom, and how prisioners should be punsished. He's talking about the prision system does not work well. Therefore he's suggesting that prisioners are let out of prision too soon. He does not trust how the California prision system is working and he thinks there needs to be a drastic change. He discusses how out of sync the system is. I believe he thinks that there is no consistency when it comes to prisioners and time served. Another point he brings up in when prisioners get out, that they get out as productive citizens, and not come out too early, to most likely commit another crime. Another good point he brings up is the subject of solution. He states that the solution for the prisioners is not set up by the staff and the guards watching them at the prision. What the solution is that the prisioners are set up with is the political process. My solution would be setting up the sentence for the individual and not necessarily the norm of the crime. I also would not put any bearing on special privlidges for certain people such as celebs and athletes.

February 21, 2010 ENG 102 BLOG

This week was all set around working on, completing, and revising project 2. Before class on monday morning, we were suppose to turn in our first copy of project 2. Project 2 was centered around visual images. You could choose a picture, a video, or even a commercial from the super bowl. My choice for this project was a controversial super bowl commercial. I chose the Tim Tebow/ Pro life commercial. We turned in our first copy on discussion board. On monday we teamed up with one other person to read our project 2 out loud. We then went on discussion board and we did something different, in regard to normally commenting under a person's paper. We went under our own paper, and we wrote what the other person said you need to improve on. That was interesting due to the fact that the person would tell you out loud what they liked about the paper, and what they did not like about the paper. They would point out the flaws, and told you what you could expand on with regard to the paper. After that we then later in the week received feedback from the professor. We then were told we needed to get our revised copy turned in. On monday we will post on discussion board our revised copy of project 2.

February 14, 2010 ENG 102 BLOG

This week in class was scheduled around turning in our revised copies of our project. The project revision dealt with our paper regarding multiculturalism. I keyed in on making grammatical errors, and attempted to structure the paper differently. We turned the revised copy in on monday through discussion board on blackboard. We then went over our next project that same day. The next project deals with a visual item. Everyone is suppose to pick a visual item such as a picture, video, or super commercial. We then will write a 3 page paper regarding the visual item. We then scheduled an individual conference for later in the week with no classes wednesday and friday. My conference was on wednesday at 1:30 in the Robert Bell building. At the conference we discussed revising my first project again. We also talked about my plans for my next project. While I told the professor I thought I had an idea about the Tim Tebow abortion/pro life commercial, she suggested that I think about writing about my future in the landscaping business. She said I could write about the plans and blueprints that are in connection with the second project. I will finish up my project tonight and post it up on discussion board.

February 7, 2010 ENG 101 BLOG

This week in class we went over a story dealing with Multicuturalism in Business. The story dealt with how things are much more casual and laid back in the United States. When you compare the United States you see that we are more out spoken than other countries. And that we get more of a chance to say what we believe. For example in some countries you are not allowed to speak out in a classroom. You are expected to listen to the teacher, and not raise your hand. You are to not challenge the teacher in these countries. But in the United States you are awarded and expected to raise your hand and to be outspoken in a classroom. You are allowed to discuss your personal opinions and allowed to challenge the teacher or professor. Another example of comparing countries is the way of discussing religion. In the United States it is not connsidered customary to discuss your religion with your friends and family. It is considered unruly. In other countries though you are expected to discuss your overall religion opinions and your religion schedule. Olivia and myself were told to post a question about the article. My question reguarded advertising, and how a person has been affected by advertising.

January 27, 2010 ENG 102 BLOG

This week we were suppose to get ready to start Project 1. Our blog this week dealt with the insight game. When I started playing the game I could definetely see the difference on both sides of the card. The first set of cards kinda surprised me. I see myself as a decently outgoing guy, but when I saw those cards, it showed me that I am not as outgoing as I had thought. The second set of cards showed me that im more logical and I like to create and inspire new ideas. This category did not suprise me at all. The third category was an absolute sweep I had all my cards in one pile. It showed that I make personal decision for myself and I don't let my emotions decide my outcome. It seemed kinda cold that I was more sensitive and emotional in this category. The last category showed me that I do like to orgainze things and have a schedule, and that time is a huge factor for me. But it did show I do some things at the very last minute. I discovered I am a INTJ. The results said I am independent, logical, and driven by ideas. It says that I am self confident and I am sometimes stubborn. It says I am somewhat shy and that I place my intuition to help me guide my actions. When I look at the results I am suprise how close the results are to my actual life. I think they were dead right with my personality type and I would recommend this game to anyone curious about there personality type.

January 23, 2010 ENG 102 BLOG

This week we were suppose to got one activity regarding Martin Luther King Day and Unity Week. The event I picked was with Rev. Joseph Lowery in Pruis Hall on Tuesday at 7PM. When I got got in there at 6:30 I had to wait 20 min for them to allow us to get seated. Right before you got in they gave you an incentive orange water bottle and a program. When I arrived in most of the lower level was completely full. The festivities began with the choir singing a song. Then Jo Ann Gora was introduced. She gave a little background and history of Lowry. The president of Ball State then introduced Rev. Joseph Lowery and everyone rose to clap. Then we were all seated, and he told a joke. In fact the whole speech was filled with jokes. He seemed to get off track really easily when he gave his speech. He didn't really tell it in a story mode which was nice, but he failed to stay focus and keep the audience upbeat and to be able to follow him smoothly. I wish he also would of talked more about Martin Luther King as a whole, and tell us what he was all about. I did enjoy the story about when Barack Obama called him to talk about helping him with his inauguration. He seemed pretty crisp and sharp for being 88. He was very powerful with his speech and he got very worked up on certain topics. He got worked up on the national anthem and thought it should be changed to amazing grace.

JANUARY 17, 2010 ENG 102 BLOG

This week was centered about getting us back to work. On monday and wendsday we went over the sllyabus and started revising the sllyabus and class schedule. We split up into a group and with 3 people we each were assigned a section for the class schedule to put in our own words. On friday each group was assigned a multiculture section. Our multiculture section dealth with the department of labor and dealt with business. The article dealt with minorities and there physical disablities that has excused them from the workplace. We also picked a Martin Luther King Event this week I picked an event with a civil rights movement leader in Pruis Hall at 7pm in Pruis Hall. I plan on attending this event to learn about some history and some things that I probably wouldn't have thought of without this event. We will then take notes at the event, and we will then use our knowledge on a project later next week or so. We then were told that each week a group would be assigned a reading section and would have to have question from that section. This was the same thing we did with the Beah Book.
